Would be great if the community/joomla had a custom tutorial page for things like this.

The Joomla community is not quite suitable for placing such tutorials, since the code I given is suitable only for your template. But there are a great many templates. It would be difficult to make tutorials for everyone.

Just learn your browser Dev Tools, study HTML/CSS, and you will not have restrictions on creating an appearance as you want in any template.
